Asset management is an issue every digital photographer grapples with sooner rather than later. You could dump everything in one big folder on a hard drive, that's asking for heartache. Not only is it tough to lay your hands on specific photos, but unless you back up regularly, you could lose every one of those images if the drive fails.

And what about image editing and versioning? Color management? Assigning metadata? File formats? The deeper you get into working with digital imagery, the more workflow questions you have.

Print and Web designers and illustrators often want to extract one or more colors from an image. Typically, it's a tedious process of clicking the Eyedropper tool to pick up the desired color, switching to the Swatches panel, and creating and naming a new swatch, or hovering the Eyedropper tool over pixels and writing down the color value from the Info panel. The more colors in the image, the longer and more boring this process is likely to become.

Gridiron Flow Now Supports QuarkExpress 8

The most recent update to visual workflow application Flow from Gridiron Software now welcomes QuarkExpress 8 and Apple's Final Cut Studio 3 to the party.

If you've already installed Flow, it will update automatically. (Should that not happen for some reason, just open Flow and go to Help > Check for Updates.

The utility called "Cameras" lets you manage what your Mac (OS X 10.4.11 or later) does when you connect to any photo device, including digital cameras, iPhones, and digital media readers.

You can choose to launch different applications for different photo devices. For example, when you plug in a card reader, you might want to launch Adobe Lightroom. But when you plug in an iPhone, Lightroom is almost certainly not your app of choice! You can also set your preferences so that images download automatically.
