FontGear Inc. (formerly Morrison SoftDesign Inc.) released FontGenius v1.0, a font identification utility for the Macintosh.

FontGenius examines pictures and identifies typefaces of any text within a picture. Using advanced recognition technology, FontGenius will produce a list of likely fonts that match selected characters within an image, and will generate character previews of the matched fonts.

FontGenius can match both installed fonts and uninstalled fonts using a built in font profile database. An internet search can also be performed on the list of results to locate, purchase, and/or download matched fonts.

FontGenius is available for $39.99 (Single User License), and you can download a free demonstration version. It requires Mac OS 10.3 or higher and runs on both PPC and Intel Macs.

Crippled Demo

The "Demo" only works on their own supplied samples - I'd be very surprised if it didn't get those right...

How about a review?

This sounds like an interesting application. Maybe Creative Pro could do a full review.
